CLUB MISSION & HISTORY

In 1991, a group of antique fire engine enthusiasts from Tucson assembled to form the Old Pueblo Vintage Fire Brigade. Using unique ideas, the group established an elected governing board called Fire Commissioners instead of a Board of Directors. Annually, the Commissioners gather to elect among themselves the Fire Chief and the Assistant Chief, (both similar to a president and vice-president). The other Commissioners carry out the other required duties of secretary, treasurer, and membership. The past Fire Chief is also a Commissioner.

The organization typically meets monthly for a business meeting and as often as possible for social and official club functions and events, most of which includes the display of fire apparatus. To this brigade, antique fire engine (s)  includes motorized as well as non-motorized fire apparatus, providing the apparatus was originally designed and used as fire apparatus. A piece of equipment that was designed for some other purpose and then converted to resemble or look similar to an old style piece of fire equipment may qualify if it is deemed to be a crowd pleaser.

There is no requirement that Brigade members own an antique fire engine. Merely wanting to own, or wanting to enjoy antique fire engines and to promote the appreciation of such apparatus is all that is necessary. Old Pueblo Vintage Fire Brigade is a family style organization and to this end, all policies and activities consider family values and family involvement. Each membership is considered a family membership and thus enjoys two votes per family.

Many organizations periodically publish history books. However, the organization's history is only current as of the published date. Our Brigade uses a year book concept, designed in a three ring format for easy monthly updating. Our organizational record is broken down in 4 sections, organizational development, events, members and apparatus.

Old Pueblo Vintage Fire Brigade became the "Cactus Chapter" of SPAAMFAA (The Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus of America). SPAAMFAA is the national organization for antique fire engine enthusiasts.

The Old Pueblo Vintage Fire Brigade periodically publishes a newsletter when possible. The newsletter is currently compiled by a forest firefighter. Due to the intensity and frequency of forest fires in the southwest, the newsletter has been sporadic at best. Please be patient and continue to check in often. While you are waiting for the next newsletter, please feel free to browse in our store.
